Vitamin C Supplements~Good or Bad?

Oh boy, has the cold and flu season hit with a vengeance!!!  Everybody I know has some kind of something….sneezing, coughing, fever, headache, gastrointestinal symptoms.  As I write this, one of my daughters and I seem to be sharing the same “change of season cold”.  It is really necessary to take additional Vitamin C supplements when you are ill?

The answer lies in your dietary intake.  If you are consuming enough fruits and veggies, you most likely will NOT need a supplement.  The symptoms will subside on their own.  Eat a variety of fruits and veggies….the colors of the rainbow, and you will have nothing to worry about.

The ten fruits and veggies that contain the highest amounts of Vitamin C are:

Red and green hot chili peppers, Guava, Bell Peppers, Fresh Thyme, Fresh Parsley, Dark Leafy Greens (Kale, Spinach, Mustard Greens, Collard Greens), Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Kiwi, Papaya, Oranges, Clementines, and Strawberries.  This is by far NOT all the fruits and veggies that have Vitamin C, but these are some of the top contenders!!

So, if you are eating like Popeye, no worries to take supplements.  The supplements really don’t have many benefits, check out this video.  Eat up those fruits and veggies and don’t waste your money on the supplements!!!!
