I Love my VitaMix 5200!!

For Christmas 2008, my husband got me a VitaMix 5200.  Although in the beginning I used it quite a bit, for a while I didn’t use it much.  Since I have been changing my eating habits, this little bugger gets used at least once a day!!  I have made soups, smoothies, juices, and salsa with my VitaMix.  This machine is extremely powerful and very fast and efficient!

Don’t be discouraged by the price, as it is definitely worth every penny!!!  I have had numerous blenders in the past and nothing compares to this mighty machine!!!  My 12 yr old daughter has been making herself (and others) smoothies this past week or so…just about every day.  This machine makes it super easy to get the fruit and vegetables in your diet!!

The beauty is that you do not have to chop everything up first.  Just peel the vegetable and maybe cut in half, then just throw in the fruits and vegetables you want.  Check out their website for some wonderful information as well as recipes and videos/demonstrations.

One of the first smoothies I made was a hit with the kids…it was a green smoothie that VitaMix calls Going Green Smoothie and I called it the “Shrek” smoothie.  Here’s the recipe:

1 cup green grapes

1/2 cup pineapple (I use frozen so I don’t need ice cubes)

2 cups fresh spinach (I use baby spinach-less bitter)

1/2 – 1 whole banana

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup ice cubes (if not using frozen pineapple)

Place all ingredients in blender in order listed.   If using frozen pineapple, put in blender last.  Make sure lid is on and secure.  Turn on machine to variable speed 1.  Quickly turn up to variable speed 10.  Then flip it to high for 60 seconds, or until consistancy is how you like.  Serve!  Enjoy!!
